A well-executed conditioned-based maintenance program for electrical switchgear will help improve plant reliability, electrical safety in general and reduce the risk of arc flash incidents.

A properly-executed Electrical IR Scan (under load) needs to be accomplished on all electrical system components on a regular basis (-intervals are a related issue).

If well-planned, an arc flash study can be done at the same time as an IR Survey. This is efficient and safer because the panels are removed only once –depending on schedules, tasks and many factors.
